Job Description
School of Biomedicine
Closing date: 14/09/2010
Reference: MHS/10864
The Genetics Medicine Department has a strong programme of research in defining the causes of inherited developmental conditions. In collaboration with Professor Adrian Woolf, Professor of Paediatric Science, we have recently identified that mutations in the HPSE2 gene are a common and important cause of the recessive condition urofacial (Ochoa) syndrome (Daly et al Am J Hum Genet 2010 Jun 11;86(6):963-9). This condition provides important insight into mechanisms of bladder control and into the aetiology of vesico-ureteric reflux disease.
You will have a number of objectives including the characterisation of the function of HPSE2 and the effects of gene-knockdown in a Xenopus model.
The successful candidate should have significant laboratory bench experience and hold at least a PhD or equivalent in Genetics or Molecular Biology.
